Gold Coast strip club in Australia was fined $30,000 for disabling fire alarms and blocking exits

Hollywood Showgirls, in Surfers Paradise, was found to have broken 25 fire safety rules, leaving patrons at risk of ‘injury or death’. The pub had pleaded guilty to 17 charges of breaching fire safety regulations.

Queensland Fire Commissioner Katarina Carroll said both judgements showed that building owners who are knowingly and deliberately breaking the law will be found and prosecuted’.

A Gold Coast strip club has been fined AUD $30,000 for a raft of serious fire safety breaches, including disabling alarms and blocking exits.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) manager of compliance and prosecution Mark Halverson said the venue’s owners had ‘illegally disabled fire alarms’.

They had also ‘made fire doors in the building inoperable in the event of an emergency’, he said.

‘Fire detection and alarm systems and fire doors are vital lifesaving equipment, especially in locations where large groups of people congregate in small spaces,’ Mr Halverson said.

‘Any delay in providing early fire warning and clear escape routes can lead to injury or death.
