2022 is already a distant memory for us here at Asia Pacific Fire Magazine. It was a year that saw the reopening of many trade exhibitions which has been excellent for the industry as a whole. 2023 looks to be even better and we look forward to meeting our readers and customers throughout the year at various events.

The summer of 2019-20 saw bushfires rage across 5.5 million hectares claiming 26 lives and destroying almost 2,500 homes. Fire-generated thunderstorms increased in number by 50% in one year and then in 2022 floods saw nine lives lost and almost 15,000 homes damaged and over 5,000 of those made uninhabitable. Greg Buckley, Chief Superintendent with Fire & Rescue NSW looks at the challenges ahead.
