Fire Raiders (South Africa) have recently completed the supply, commissioning and training on two identical “Brutus” aircraft rescue and fire-fighting vehicles for the Zanzibar Civil Aviation Authority. These two major aviation rescue and fire-fighting vehicles are part of a major investment in the fire station, apparatus and fire-fighting vehicles at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport which is located on Unguja Island in Zanzibar.
The Brutus is the flagship ARFF vehicle built by South Africa’s largest fire engine manufacturer and was named after the Mr. Marc Brutus a retired Airport Chief Fire Officer from the Seychelles who ordered the prototype fire appliance.
These stunning aerodrome fire-fighting vehicles make use of the robust Scania P460CB 6×6 HHZ chassis specified with 5,500 mm wheelbase, a 460 hp Euro 5 diesel engine, an Alison 6 speed fully automatic gearbox plus a Scania CP28 double cabin with rear SCBA mountings.
The Brutus all aluminium superstructure is manufactured with heavy-duty large dimensional extrusions. It consists of an all aluminium module with a transverse locker directly behind the cabin, a polypropylene tank mode and single compartment incorporating three equipment stowage lockers to the rear.
The trucks carry 12, 500 litres of water, 1,500 litres of foam plus 300 kg DCP. Fire engineering consists of a Godiva GVB 10 000/02 single pressure centrifugal pump, an Elkhart Brass Cobra EXM remote controlled high flow roof monitor, an Elkhart Brass Sidewinder EXM remote controlled bumper turret plus three ground sweep nozzles are mounted on the front of the truck.
The Brutus range complies fully with all current ICAO standards and meets the relevant NFPA requirements. All manufacturing and modifications are carried out in strict accordance with the requirements of the original equipment manufacturer.
