Mining is a complex industry with serious fire protection challenges. Kidde Australia provides a comprehensive range of solutions to safeguard mining operations against all types of fire hazards, including electrical, hydrocarbon, and debris-related risks. Kidde Australia’s fire detection and suppression systems are designed to protect a wide variety of equipment and environments.
Conveyers & Cable Galleries

Overheating bearings on conveyor support rollers can be a common cause of conveyor belt fires. AlarmLine II systems can detect these overheating conditions. Additional protection can be provided above and below the conveyor belt against spillage and the transportation of ignited material. These detection systems can be interfaced to the Fire Control System to operate Water Deluge systems to extinguish and control a fire event.

High-power cable installations at power stations, and any installations requiring substantial power requirements can be protected by AlarmLine II sensor cables.
Switch Rooms
Electrical switch room fires can be devastating to production on a mine site, and can result in tens of thousands to millions of dollars in lost revenue or production capability.
Kidde can provide support and guidance to ensure the right fire protection measures are put in place to protect all aspects of common electrical infrastructure.

A fire suppression system, such as Kidde Natura™ Inert Gas or Fluoro-K™ synthetic gas system with Modulaser Air Sampling Detection (ASD) allows a rapid detection response to be able to contain the hazard as quickly and effectively as possible. Gaseous suppression solutions are commonly used to provide protection to these areas, as they are electrically nonconductive and cause little or no damage to critical equipment.

Mine sites, by their nature, are harsh environments. They are remote, dirty, dusty and weatherbeaten by the worst conditions Australia has to offer. Switch rooms can lack internal real estate. The Kidde Flexi-Gas™ Enclosure from Kidde provides an easy and convenient solution to retrofit small-format inert gas systems to applications where the storage of cylinders internally is not possible due to space constraints. This allows the cylinder bank to be installed outside and shielded from the environment. These enclosures can be scaled to large applications.
Refuelling Systems
Refuelling on a mine site carries a significant fire risk because it combines flammable liquids, ignition sources, and often harsh environmental conditions. Diesel or petrol vapours can ignite from static electricity buildup, hot engine surfaces, electrical faults, or nearby welding and machinery activity, potentially leading to flash fires or explosions. Spills during refuelling increase the likelihood of vapour formation, and fire can spread rapidly across equipment or the ground, especially in dry, dusty conditions common on mine sites.

Flame detection systems identify both visible and non-visible fires. Kidde helps select the most suitable flame detector based on the fuel type and application, ensuring rapid detection while minimising false alarms.
Kidde systems protect a wide range of assets in daily mining operations, including electric rope shovels, electric shovels, refuelling stations, computerised control rooms, administration facilities, workshops, and warehouses
