Firefighters rescue large blue tongue lizard during fires in the Hunter region of NSW.
The volunteers were helping firefighters extinguish an allegedly deliberately lit fire which burnt through 33 hectares of land in Kurri Kurri when they discovered a severely burnt blue-tongued lizard taking refuge under a sheet of bark. Although badly burnt the lizard responded to being doused n water.
Two volunteers from the Hunter Valley Native Animal Trust Fund helped tend to the injured lizard. The lizard went home with one of the NATF volunteers and is now in the care of local woman Nicole Doyle, who said it will make a full recovery. This was all captured by 9NEWS cameraman Josh Martin
